A spokesperson for Barceló Hotels said: “We have noted the reports in the media over the past weekend speculating about the future financial stability of Dawnay Day. This company has a small equity holding in Dawnay Shore Hotels plc (“DSH”) with whom Barceló Hotels has a 45 year lease to operate 20 hotels in the UK. There is no direct financial relationship between Dawnay, Day and Barceló Hotels. DSH is independent of the ownership of Dawnay, Day and the operation of Barceló Hotels in Britain is unaffected.”

Barceló Hotels & Resorts, which manages over 182 hotels in 15 countries in four continents, took on the management and operation of the UK hotel group formerly branded as Paramount Hotels, in September 2007. From January 2008 the  Paramount properties were rebranded as Barceló Hotels..
