Olympic and Commonwealth Games medallist Donna Hartley MBE has been appointed Spa and Leisure Manager at the luxury Barceló Shrigley Hall Hotel Golf and Country Club in Pott Shrigley, near Macclesfield.

A double gold medallist at the 1978 Edmonton Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal winner in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Donna has been tasked with managing Barceló Shrigley Hall’s popular leisure club and spa with a view to extending its appeal to all age groups.

“With Shrigley’s outstanding leisure team and facilities, I plan to encourage everyone, no matter what their age, to come and experience the physical and psychological benefits of regular exercise.  My strength is in motivating people and part of my role will focus on persuading the over 50s to come and take part in a variety of exercise activities at Shrigley Hall’s leisure club such as aerobics, Pilates and swimming” says Donna.

“This is an issue that is really close to my heart.  Too often older people feel intimidated by health clubs but I aim to show that anyone – even people with limited movement - can take part in regular exercise and feel good about themselves.”

Previously Donna worked at the Tankersley Manor Hotel in Barnsley, where she set up the hotel’s leisure club, and also at the four star St Paul’s Hotel in Sheffield where she was the Spa and Leisure Manager.
