Without doubt one of the world's greatest ensembles, the RSC is in a period of change. Its main home, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, is closed for major refurbishment, which will create a thrust stage, very much like Shakespeare may have recognised.
Until the new theatre opens in 2010 the company's work has transferred mainly to the Courtyard Theatre. Here you can continue to enjoy summer seasons of Shakespeare's plays, special family events, theatre tours and works by contemporary writers.
Founded in 1960 by Peter Hall, the Royal Shakespeare Company has built on an impressive history of performances in Shakespeare's birthplace since late Victorian times.
