The Barceló Blackpool Imperial Hotel, Blackpool, has been the proud sponsor of the World 8 Ball Pool Championships for the past two years. This is a prestigious event which lasts two weeks and has the crème de la crème of the sport competing for the coveted trophy. The event is coming to Blackpool again in 2009 and will be sponsored by Scottish & Newcastle plc under their world renowned brand "FOSTER'S.
It is remarkable that in the same year as the sport announces a major league sponsor, the World event is reporting record numbers of entrants in the main events of the championships.
Entrants have been received from all areas of the world. Television coverage is again with BSKYB and shows an increase to 9 programmes with an estimated 60 hours transmission time.
Alison Gilmore, General Manager at the Imperial is delighted to be hosting such a fantastic event.
“It’s a most exciting time for the team at the Hotel and the event really encapsulates the versatility of the function rooms at the Hotel; turning the Washington Suite from a stunning ballroom into a sports arena has to be seen to be believed!
The teams love having their event in Blackpool. There’s so much to do for both the players and the supporters. It’s an ideal destination for a competition with a plethora of activities right on our doorstep”
