Blue Planet Aquarium

Sporting a 71-metre long underwater tunnel, the Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port houses 3.5 million litres of water and one of the largest collections of sharks in Europe, including sand tigers (related to the great white sharks), nurse sharks and lemon sharks. The very brave can even arrange to take a swim with them.

The walkway takes its visitors on a journey through an exhibit that depicts the wonders of life in a Caribbean reef. As well as sharks, there are six fully-grown stingrays and 2500 aquatic animals, shared out amongst the various aquarium houses. A recent addition is the otter enclosure, one of the largest in the UK and home to a mother and daughter named Hanna and Grace.
