Golf at Barceló Shrigley Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club
Set in 262 acres of glorious Cheshire countryside, this true Championship course is a real test of skill and stamina, whatever your handicap.
Our 18-hole, par-71 course was designed by celebrated architect Donald Steel, who’s worked on every Open Championship venue in the country. The course takes you through magnificent woodland and open parkland. Its toughest challenges are the 8th (par 3), with a meandering stream, ponds either side and a woodland backdrop, and the tricky 18th (par 5) with its sweeping dog-leg, bordering our superb fishing lake.
Barceló Shrigley Hall Hotel Golf Club's Golf Professionals are available at the club for private or group tuition.

Hole 1
Par 4
The opening drive should favour the left hand side of the hole as the fairway slopes from left to right. Long hitters should be aware of reaching the three fairway bunkers which cross the fairway. The green slopes severely from left to right oo be sure to leave your second shot in a safe position on the green.

Par 4
Long hitters may be tempted to try and drive the green, but they should be aware that a miss-hit shot will find the sand. This small greens slopes from the front left to back right so it is important the ball is kept below the hole to help your chance for a birdie.

Par 3
It is always worthwhile checking the pin position from the second green before you walk down to the 3rd tee as the bottom of the pin is not visible. Be sure to take enough club and avoid the two bunkers which protect both sides of the green.

Par 5
Our first par five offers a great birdie opportunity, but beware of the sloping fairway which gathers the ball to the left. Keep your drive and second shot right allowing for this approach to the green.

Par 4
Keep your drive up the right half of this sloping fairway to make your approach shot into the green easier. Be sure to avoid the bunker on the left and try keep your ball below the pin as this greens slopes severely from front right to back left, making a birdie a rare score on this hole.

Par 4
An impressive driving hole from the back tees. With a path running down the middle of the fairway the hole always tends to play harder than its length and S.I. The ideal shot is a draw of the tee to find the left half of the fairway, which opens up the green for the approach.

Hole 7
Par 5
Our second par 5 offers a good birdie chance. Whist long hitters should be able to reach the green in two, most golfers will have to play this hole as a ‘three shotter’ and lay up at the end of the fairway or over the ravine at the bottom of the slop. Taking more club will make it easier to clear the valley and reach the green, but don’t forget the two bunkers waiting for over hit shots at the back of the green.

Par 3
Shrigley Hall’s ‘signature’ hole and one of the finest par 3’s in the County. A truly spectacular hole with a tee raised high above a green which is surrounded by 2 ponds, 1 stream and a collection of very large trees. At 160 yards from the back tee, with the wind constantly swirling and no bail out zone, it is truly a hole that will live in the memory banks for a long time. Take your par and walk quickly to the next tee!

Par 4 (Ladies - 5)
A tough finish to the front nine and a potential card wrecker. The ideal line is straight through the middle of the two big tress with a touch of draw as the fairway slopes away to the right. From the right hand side of the fairway you will have a blind approach into the two tiered green which slopes from front to back. With a carefully placed bunker at the front of the green and rhododendron bushes all to the left side, accuracy is imperative to keep your score going.

Par 4
Reachable for the long hitters off the tee and a great birdie opportunity for all. Two big trees protect the fairway so a fade around the left of them is ideal which will leave a short iron to the green. If you are feeling confident of driving the green, beware of the severe left to right slope on the fairway which will direct loose drives away into the long rough right of the fairway. This relatively flat green is also protected by a deep bunker.

Par 4
Renowned as being the best hole on the course. This wonderful par 4 requires an accurate drive across the pond leaving anything from a hybrid to a short iron into a well protected green. A water hazard runs down the left half of the fairway and several large trees sit at the side of the narrow entrance to the green. An approach shot missed to the left will run all the way down towards the pond at the left of the green.

Par 4
The hardest hole on the course as well as being the hardest walk! The tee shot requires a draw around the trees. The green is perched on the top of the hill and requires a well struck second to reach. Once up there the green is relatively flat. This hole offers spectacular views across Cheshire & Lancashire.

Hole 13
Par 4
A tough driving hole with the tree on the right of the fairway very much in play. The fairway slopes down towards the green so be careful when selecting the correct iron as the ball can run through the green and over the back leaving a very awkward chip back up the steep banking.

Hole 14
Par 3
This relatively short par 3 has one of the biggest greens on the course. You must take note of where the pin is placed as you do not want to be the wrong side of the flag on the two tiered green. The green slopes from back to front and right to left so make sure the ball is left on the low side to avoid the dreaded three putt.

Par 4
A short dog leg par 4 with yet another sloping two tiered green. The best position to be in on the fairway for your approach shot is the left half. Any shot leaked to the right should kick down towards the fairway, however the further right you go the more awkward your stance becomes and approach shot more difficult. Try leaving your ball on the low side of the pin wherever it may be on the green.

Hole 16
Par 3 (Ladies - 4)
Our longest par 3 for men, a short par 4 for ladies. Generally played into the wind on this hole and can play anything up to driver to reach the green. Try and keep the ball to the left of the middle of the green as the slope before the green tends to kick the ball onwards and to the right. A par on this hole is always tough to come by.

Hole 17
Par 4
The back nine’s signature hole. Feed your drive through the trees onto a three tiered fairway which slopes slightly left to right. From here you play your approach uphill to one of our quickest greens. The green slopes from back right to front left and it is imperative to keep your approach shot beneath the hole. Anything above the hole could see you putt off the front of the green. If you are below the hole then you have a realistic chance of a birdie.

Hole 18
Par 5
The ideal line off the tee on this tough finishing hole is left centre of the fairway with a fade. The fairway slopes away from the Oakridge woods towards the pond which runs parallel with the fairway. The second shot must be kept up the right hand side of the fairway for that reason. Anything hit down the left side of this fairway will be gathered up by the pond. The large green slopes gently from right to left offering a good chance of holing out for your par.
